July 14-15, 2025

We only had a morning trip on Monday due to high winds in the afternoon. Satula was still kicking around, a humpback whale we've seen during our past few trips. This whale was moving every which way. Turns out, our best looks were when we left it to go search for other whale activity, and it followed in the same direction. Go figure. 😆

Sedge, the humpback whale, was also sighted. Since our two whales were moving in opposite directions, we stuck with Sedge to wrap up the day.

The weather was beautiful on Tuesday... finally. It feels as though we have been battling fog, wind, and rain most days, but not today. Today we could see a horizon, the wind was calm, and it was a perfect backdrop for watching wildlife. On Tuesday morning we spent time watching humpback whales Sedge and Satula.

While these whales were moving around independently of each other, they crossed paths a few times, and we got some great looks at these whales.

As we spent time with these whales we watched multiple minke whales surface and we even had a pair of fin whales move through the area. So much to look at and enjoy.

On Tuesday afternoon, our first spouts of the trip were a pair of fin whales. As we slowly approached we quickly realized it was a mother-calf pair, a pair we have seen a handful of times this season.
We can't get enough of this fin whale calf!
Fin whale calf poking it's snout above the surface - so flipping adorable!
And then it happened. The calf approached the boat, multiple times. A wild massive animal, choosing to swim up to us. What a memory.

Our engines were shut off, so we were just floating there allowing the calf to maneuver in whichever way it wanted.

The beauty of wildlife didn't end there; we watched two other fin whales during our travels, saw a couple of minke whales, and checked out Satula and Sedge. Wow, what a day.
