This morning, the fog from the early morning burned off in time for us to find a bunch of marine life! We found a couple of ocean sunfish, a shark of unknown species, multiple groups of harbor porpoises, a minke whale, two humpback whales (Sedge and Satula), and three fin whales! We also had a lone grey seal offshore and a dozen grey seals as we cruised through the Isles of Shoals!

The bird life was also pretty decent with three species of shearwaters, a glossy ibis, Wilson’s storm petrels, and even some black guillemots near the Shoals.
This afternoon, we returned to where we were in the
morning and found a bunch of huge fin whales- at least 5, maybe more. But these
giants were giving us the run-around. They were busy doing their fin whale
things and had no desire to grace us with their presence. Wildlife will be wild
and unpredictable. But seeing so many of them in the area was still cool. A
minke whale decided to surface near us, but then quickly disappeared. Finally,
we came upon a humpback whale, Satula, who was very cooperative! Finally, after
chasing a lot of fin whale blows, we got a decent look at a large whale. Thank
you, Satula!

The bird life was a little slower this afternoon. Still, we did see another glossy ibis, multiple Wilson’s storm petrels and Corey’s shearwaters, and then a few oyster catchers and black guillemots (again near the Isles of Shoals), and even a bald eagle in the harbor upon our return!
